4.6. Period from 2001 to 2007



On 06 January 2001 signed the managing director of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH (BBG), Mr. Frank Wruck, and the superintendent of police headquarters Eberswalde, Ms. Uta Leichsenring, a common pilot project over an order partnership. The order partnership served the clear improvement of co-operation and should not only arrange a larger safety feeling for passengers.

Due to construction work the crossing Spechthausener Straße was fully closed from 19 April 2001 to 28 April 2001. During this full closure both trolleybus lines were diverted and the the trolleybus overhead system were renewed.

After sunshine follows as well known sooner or later rain. On Tuesday, the 15 May 2001, it was once again so far. Against 15:30 clock, in the rush-hour traffic on afternoon, came a middle thunderstorm down over Eberswalde.
A lightning knocked near the bus station on the Heegermühler Straße into an guy of the trolleybus overhead system and caused an operational disturbance of the trolleybus traffic. The lightning decommissioned 4 (in words: four) articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type of the ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17. By it were affected the cars 033, 035, 037 and 040. All four articulated trolleybuses had by the ligtning heavy damages to the electronic system and electrical equipment and had to be towed to the depot Nordend .

On the occasion of timetable changes of the regional traffic, to 10 June 2001, were renamed following bus rather trolleybus stops, the stop Leibniz-Straße in Leibniz-Viertel, the stop Hüttengasthof in Eisenspalterei, the stop Arbeitsamt (The labour office in the meantime moved!) in Wolfswinkel and the stop Westend-Theater in Westend-Kino.

With the coming into force of the changed VBB tariff to 01 August 2001 the fare for a single ticket was hiked up from 1.80 DM to 2.00 DM.

On 23 October 2001 the last intake switch of the old design in the Eberswalde trolleybus network at the turnaround loop Westend/Boldtstraße became replaced by a intake switch of the company Kummler & Matter/CH.

In November 2001 the crew of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft was vested again. The colour of the uniform was changed over from blue and grey to green and grey. In the transit time until October 2002 either the complete old or complete new uniform could be worn.

On 20 December 2001 the breakdown lorry of the GDR-type W 50 LA/AB/A was taken out of service. The breakdown lorry was replaced by a used vehicle of the German type DB UNIMOG 427/10.

On 01 January 2002 the conversion of fares to EURO (€) took place. A single ticket cost now 1 €.

Change of the trolleybus overhead system
from old railway bridge to the newer railway bridge On 18 January 2002 was the last traffic day of the trolleybuses over the 1909 built old railway bridge. Because the structural steelwork of the old railway bridge exhibited substantial lack, the trolleybus overhead system in direction to Karl-Marx-Platz was laid toward from the old railway bridge to the 1986/87 built newer railway bridge on 19 January 2002.

In the period from 27 April to 13 October 2002 were due to the Brandenburg Garden Festival 2002 in Eberswalde the weekend and holiday timetables of the trolleybuses changed. 

On 01 August 2002 the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) accomplished a tariff amendment. However the fares did not change this time.

After nearly 40 years, on 01 November 1962 trolleybus night traffic was stopped, on the occasion of the MOZ-Lokal-Tour (MOZ pub tour) on 02/03 October 2002 were driven on the trolleybus lines  861  and  862  in the time from the start of operation on 02 October to the end of operation on 03 October trolleybus night traffic again.

On 13 October 2002 the Brandenburg Garden Festival 2002 in Eberswalde closed. Starting from 14 October 2002 the weekend and holiday timetables of the trolleybuses were changed.

On 03 December 2003 with the support of the country Brandenburg was begun with the structure of a 5.6 million euros expensive modern computer-based operational guidance system (RBL), a county spanning project of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft, the Personenverkehrsgesellschaft Schwedt/Angermünde and the Uckermärkische Verkehrsgesellschaft. In the aftermath into the trolleybuses, buses, operation controllers and at selected stops were installed gradually the necessary technical facilities for it.

On 24 March 2003, after nearly 10 years in use, the articulated trolleybus No. 017 of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 as first articulated trolleybus of this type series in Eberswalde scored a kilometrage of 500000 km.

system and ticketing printer of the type ATRON FR compact of the company ATRON electronic GmbH On the occasion of the MOZ-Lokal-Tour (MOZ pub tour) on 30 April / 01 May 2002 the BBG drove on the trolleybus lines  861  and  862  in the time from the start of operation on 30 April to the end of operation on 01 May trolleybus night traffic.

On 01 August 2003 the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) accomplished the annual tariff amendment. The reduced fares as well as 7-day-tickets and monthly tickets were increased by approximately 3%.

After the trolleybuses and buses of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft were already equipped with digital display panels in the context of the introduction of the computer-based operational guidance system (RBL), the equipment with new vehicle computers and ticket printers of the type ATRON FR compact produced by the company ATRON electronic GmbH 85570 Markt Schwaben/FRG began on 08 August 2003. The articulated trolleybus No. 037 of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 was equipped as first trolleybus with a new vehicle computer and ticket printer as well as an aerial for the reception of the GPS satellites.

produced by the company elgeba Gerätebau GmbH On 01 April 2004 the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) accomplished the annual tariff amendment. The fares for ticket owners of the commutation ticket tariff were increased by an average of 7.9%. The fares of the cash ticket tariff (single tickets) were not changed. At the same time in the Eberswalde local city transport changed also the ticket formats in the advanced sale. Among single tickets, single tickets reduced, 7-day-tickets, monthly tickets and annual tickets, which could be already acquired in the advanced sale, can be acquired in the future also daily tickets, daily tickets reduced as well as small group tickets in the advanced sale in the Eberswalde advance booking offices for trolleybus tickets.

Due to the change of the paper format of the tickets acquired in the advance booking offices on 01 April 2004 in Eberswalde all trolleybuses and buses of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH were equipped with new validators of the type ticompact 02. The new valdators have a expanded slot for the tickets and were produced by the company elgeba Gerätebau GmbH 53604 Bad Honnef/Aegidienberg/FRG.

Overhaul of the articulated trolleybuses Starting from 26 April 2004 the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße were fully closed for vehicle traffic for the redevelopment of the last section between Goethe-Straße and Breite Straße and therewith also for the trolleybuses. For this period of the full closure on the trolleybus lines  861  and  862  were driven trolleybus replacement bus service. The trolleybus replacement bus service was diverted over the Eisenbahnstraße past at the main post office.

During the trolleybus replacement bus service were begun with the overhaul of the interior equipment of the meanwhile 10 years old articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17. Further took place the installation of closed circuit television equipments as well as in the context of a warranty a repair of the window frames and also a replacement of scratched panes.

405 GN 93 II, rented by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) Through the delays of the construction works in the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße the trolleybus traffic could not taken up again like planned to the school start on 09 August 2004. In order to be able to secure the increased transport need to the school start, the Barnimer Busgesellschaft had rented 8 articulated buses of the German type MB O 405 GN 93 II by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

By different passenger controls in the year 2004 a very high portion of passengers were assessed without valid ticket. Thereupon the entrance in front by the driver was introduced again starting from the 09 August 2004 also on the trolleybus lines  861  and  862  in the Eberswalde city traffic. The passengers are requested to show their tickets to the trollebus driver for checking.

Articulated trolleybus 036 turns at Boldtstraße, the eastern entrance to the fairground Although still various outstanding works had to be done with the building of the sidewalks, on 16 August 2004 the Friedrich-Ebert-Straße was opened again for public traffic with one-week delay. Therewith also the trolleybus traffic could be resumed. The 8 articulated buses of the German type MB O 405 GN 93 II rented by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) were now no longer required.

On 04 September 2004 the Brandenburg day took place in Eberswalde. About 140000 visitors gave our city the privileg of your visit. Eberswalde experienced therewith the largest volume of traffic in its 750-year-old history. The Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH was with its personnel and vehicles in the large scale operation.

MB O 405 GN 93 II rented by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) during the construction works at the level crossing Forsthaus in Nordend In the Eberswalde quarter Nordend the A-road B 2 was renewed in the area between Poratzstraße and Neue Straße as well as in the 1st section the crossroad areas Oderberger Straße and Poratzstraße. In addition a full closure of the A-road B 2 and a one side closure of the level crossing occurred in the period from 01 to 21 November 2004.

For the protection of the trolleybus replacement bus service on the trolleybus line  861  the the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH had rented again 6 articulated buses of the type MB O405 GN 93 II by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).

On 12 December 2004 the timetables of the trolleybus lines  861  and  862  were changed due to political decisions of the county council Barnim and other on it based unfounded professional decisions.

The most important innovation was the introduction of the 15 minute intervals on weekdays between 08:00 and 18:00 clock. These timetable changes led to extensive disturbances of the trolleybus traffic. Therefore the timetable changes must partially again cancelled after considerable protests from the population. From 03 January 2005 the 12 minute intervals were again introduced on workdays between 13:00 and 17:30 clock. In a row took place on 10 January and 20 January 2005 as well as on 04 April 2005 further adjustments of the trolleybus timetables.

trolleybus replacement bus service on the line 861 in Clara-Zetkin-Weg in the quarter Nordend From 23 March 2005 to 04 December 2005 the A-road B 2 was renewed in a 2nd section between Poratz-Straße and level crossing Forsthaus as well as the crossroad areas Oderberger Straße and Poratz-Straße in the Eberswalde quarter Nordend. In addition a one side closure of the the A-road B 2 and the level crossing occurred. By these building measures were again trolleybus replacement bus service driven on the trolleybus line  861  through the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH.

On 01 April 2007 the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB) realized a change in tariff. The first tariff adjustment of the VBB since August 2005 became necessary because of rise in prices for maintenances, investments as well as increased current and gasoline prices. The fares for monthly tickets VBB-Umwelt as well as single tickets in the Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg - VBB hiked up on the average by 2,6 per cent. The single ticket for the trolleybus cost now 1,20 €.
